Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tuzulo really free?

Yes, next question.

What can I upload?

Images and specific file types. If your question is really about the type of images we allow the answer is "as long as it isn't illegal."

How much can I upload?

As much as you want. There are limits on each upload but not the total amount you can upload.

Additionally there are limits on how many items you can upload if you're not a registered user. new

Does Tuzulo have bandwidth limits?

No.

The uploader doesn't seem to be working. What can I do?

Upgrade your Flash player, reload the page or try the older non-flash uploader.

Is there a limit on the gallery size?

No but use common sense. Massive galleries (actually called collections in our terminology) take longer to upload and therefore penalize your viewers.

Is there a limit on the number of items within a gallery?

No but again use common sense. Few people want to wait for a giant gallery to load. If you are going to construct galleries with many images use a Flash layout.

Will my uploads ever be deleted? clarified

Tuzulo monitors and measures access to all media. If your media has not been accessed either directly on the site or via a hot-link for 60 days then it is considered stale or forgotten and the following will happen:

If your media is registered to an account:

If you've set the "informed" flag you'll get an email message with a link to the stale collection. If you access that link (after logging in) then the media is automatically accessed and nothing will be deleted. Effectively this is a self-canceling reminder.

If you've chosen to uncheck the "informed" flag then the media will remain for an additional 30 days (90 days total after last access) at which time it will be deleted. This is the same action as if you did not click the link in the email reminder or chose not to access the media in any other way.

If your media was uploaded anonymously:

Anonymous uploads which have gone stale after 60 days are automatically removed.

My images are cropped. What can I do?

Choose a different layout. Codes for the new image sizes are automatically generated.

Rectangular images will always be cropped within the Tuzulo system because the thumbnails used internally are square. But you can pick from a layout which allows viewers to see the entire image by picking a constant aspect-ratio layout.

Changing the generated thumbnail size can be done immediately after upload.

What file types can I upload?

You can upload images and specific file types such as PDFs, Word documents, etc. You can also upload ZIP archives, which we automatically break apart and grab the images. You may not upload music files or videos at this time. For a detailed discussion of accepted and rejected file types click here.

What if I wrap a music file in a ZIP or RAR archive?

Nice try. We inspect archives and if you're trying to do this the upload will be rejected. That includes wrapping archives within archives.

How can I change the thumbnail size?

Easy. Just select from a number of presentations. Codes are generated automatically.

Can I append to an existing gallery?

Err, you mean collection. Yes, of course. Expand using the green 'Add More' button.

Can I hotlink?

Absolutely. That's the point.

However, we don't directly support hotlinked images without a wrapping link back to Tuzulo. If you're trying to display free-standing images without backing links we kindly ask that you not do that.

Is there a URL which lists all my uploads?

If you have an account, yes - use the upload history or attempt to reclaim your anonymous uploads.

If you don't have an account your options are limited. You will have to remember the private /upload page for each upload you make.

How do I rename a collection?

Click the title to edit. When a collection doesn't have a name it's called Your Upload.

How do I add descriptive text?

There is no facility for doing this inside Tuzulo. Instead, you do this when posting your codes. Click here to learn more about how to do that.

How do I merge galleries?

Err, you mean collections. The syntax for the public-facing /collection URL allows you to merge galleries, with or without filtering, meaning you can either view only images or only files within the collection.

There are two restrictions to merging. First you must own all the collections, which implies you have an account and the safety flag must be identical over all the merged collections. Merging is not permitted on anonymous collections.

We will be constructing an interface for static merging soon. The use of /collection merging syntax is dynamic by which users can list separate collections to be merged.

What software requirements are needed to use Tuzulo?

A modern browser, Flash, Javascript and cookies.

What browsers are supported?

We test on the latest Safari (3+, 4+), Firefox (3+), Internet Explorer (6 and 7), Opera and Google Chrome browsers on the Macintosh (OS 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard) and PC platforms (Windows XP). Development is on, you guessed it, Macintosh. We use the excellent VMware Fusion product with multiple virtual machines for testing under Windows.

Tuzulo believes in usability and therefore test all our pages through the W3C Markup Validation Service.

We recommend using Mozilla FireFox instead of Internet Explorer. In fact, we recommend anything over IE. Before you suspect something of not working, check your system and upgrade your browser.

My upload hangs. What do I do?

We are aware of certain browser bugs which impede site functionality, particularly issues involving uploading files using Safari and we're working to provide intelligent solutions to this and other problems.

Safari can sometimes "hang" on upload. There is no colored beach ball but the upload takes forever. Most importantly, there is no network traffic. Try either hitting Escape then the Upload button again or just hit the Upload button for the second time. This tends to unfreeze Safari when doing file uploads which only applies to the old uploader. The new and default flash-based uploader doesn't have this problem.

Why doesn't Tuzulo give out BBcode for Flash embedding?

Read this.

Does Tuzulo have an API?

Yes, you can read about it here.
